MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Garden Route-based music NPO, Carpe Musicam! (CM!) was founded in George in July 2015. From day one its mission has been to create audience-friendly orchestral and choral concerts and to foster the development of and interest in musical performance skills among the younger residents of the Garden Route. This was all to be done in as fun and enjoyable a manner as possible.
This December's Music Around the World concerts are something of a dream come true for CM! The CM! Youth Orchestra will take the stage for the first time as a stand-alone performing entity.
It will lead the first section of the performances together with the Roots4Rhythm Marimba group, and as accompanists for two amazing young people who have disabilities.
Roots4Rhythm is a project run by Lasya Botes, through which she provides music tuition to young people, especially those with special needs. She also sings in the CM! Choir and plays her Glockenspiel and Xylophone during CM! Orchestra performances.
The second section of the performances will feature the CM! Orchestra and Choir. The virtuoso interpretation of We Three Kings for violin solo and orchestra, with violinist Cherith Bain, has to be experienced to be believed. Cellist Sue Fawcett will also be adding a unique sound to the orchestra with her selection of medieval instruments.
