MOSSEL BAY NEWS & VIDEO - A solemn memorial was held for beloved local fireman James Claassen this morning, Saturday 26 October.
It took place at the Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management Services premises in Heiderand, Mossel Bay.
The commemoration of the life of "Oom James" later proceeded to the cemetery in Heiderand.
Claassen passed away of natural causes at the age of 60 on Wednesday, 14 October.
He had had an impressive 30 years of service as a firefighter. His death came as a shock to the Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management Services staff and the community of D'Almeida, where he lived.

"Oom James" was held high esteem and great affection in the community. He was known as a colourful character and pillar in the community.
