MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Many people find knitting extremely therapeutic.
They feel there could be nothing better than being curled up in an armchair, needles clicking. And even better if it is for a good cause.
Mossel Bay resident Marlene Smit is one of the many women around the world who knit baby vests for newborns. Marlene takes hers to the Mossel Bay Provincial Hospital for the premature or full-term babies.
Many church groups knit these vests as well as beanies for newborns.
Moms must be delighted to receive a free vest for their baby.
Marlene says: "I started knitting the vests years ago. I got the pattern from women at a church.
"I sew little buttons, ribbons or beads on my vests, so they don't look too plain. There is a lady in Randfontein who sends me knitted vests for the hospital too."
Here is a pattern for a newborn baby vest.
