ELECTION NEWS AND VIDEO - Western Cape Provincial Electoral Officer Courtney Sampson lauded political parties for the important role they play in giving feedback on issues that may affect the election.
He related a telephone call he received from the provincial chairperson of Icosa, Dawid Kamfer.
"Dawid Kamfer called me to complain about an IEC officer who took a special vote from a house without it having been put in the envelope beforehand. I immediately said the IEC would investigate. A short while later Kamfer called me again. He said Icosa investigated and found that the IEC official had to run from a vicious dog. She took the completed ballot paper and envelope with her. Once safely in her car, she immediately placed the ballot paper in the envelope is was required of her."
Sampson thanked Icosa for also relating the correct information to the IEC. "It is the first time that a politician reverted to the IEC with the correct information, and I thank Dawid Kamfer for it."
Sampson said political parties, political observers and politicians play an important role to ensure the integrity of the election.
