ELECTION NEWS - South Africans are going to the polls this week to vote in the provincial and national elections.
Special votes are being cast today and tomorrow, while general voting will take place on Wednesday 8 May.
When you arrive at your voting station, you will go through the following steps to cast your vote:
1. Present your valid identity document (green ID book, smart card or temporary ID) to the door controller at the entrance of the voting station. (A driver's licence is not an acceptable proof of ID.)
2. Move on to the table where you can check that you are on the voters' roll.
3. Get your ballot papers.
4. Have your identification document stamped.
5. Find an empty voting booth and make your X.
6. Cast your vote by inserting the ballot papers in the available boxes.
Don't wait till the last minute
IEC Western Cape spokesperson Trevor Davids encourages people to vote as early as possible.
Don't wait till the last minute. Rather vote through the course of the day to avoid queues accumulating late evening. It takes only 3 to 5 minutes if there are no queues.
Voting station hours
Voting stations will be open from 07:00 to 21:00.
