ELECTION NEWS - Accusations on social media of apparent racism at a polling station in Wellington have been put into perspective by the Western Cape provincial electoral Officer, Courtney Sampson.
He said the voters were in fact asked to form separate queues.
“However, a problem was experienced with voters, especially students, who had to fill out the relevant form to cast their vote at a voting station where they were not registered to vote.
“This had caused delays. The presiding officer, therefore, requested the students who still had to fill in the required form to file into a different queue.
“This was done in order to streamline the voting process. The explanation by the presiding officer was accepted by the IEC.”
