MOSSEL BAY BUSINESS NEWS - It is often said that it is more difficult to do business in a town than in a large city. Often towns consist of close-knit communities where everyone knows one another and family businesses rule the roost.
However, there are entrepreneurs in Mossel Bay who have successfully entered the market and excelled in their endeavours and there are always business opportunities to be found by the pioneer who sees a demand and is prepared to meet it, despite the challenges.
Mossel Bay is known as a town where people are prepared to work hard and see things through until they achieve success. In celebration of these successes, the annual Mossel Bay Business of the Year and Business Person of the Year awards, under the auspices of the Mossel Bay Business Chamber, will take place soon.
This year's Business of 2016 competition will be in pursuance of the chamber's vision for acknowledging excellence.
This is in line with the foundation anchoring the awards, namely: identifying, encouraging and rewarding excellence, while still being highly competitive. The premise of the awards is to inspire budding entrepreneurs to emulate and exceed the achievements of those who traversed the road before them.
These awards will be made at a gala function on 4 November the Diaz Beach Hotel.
Popular television and radio presenter, Sue Pyler, who grew up in George, will be the master of ceremonies at the awards. Bubbly Sue has slots on Radio Sonder Grense and she is sure to liven up the evening.
In order to compare businesses fairly, the following criteria will be applicable.
• Contributed substantially to the turnaround or growth of a business, or managed a larger business in a way that has demonstrated notable entrepreneurial characteristics and achievements.
• Contribution to the private enterprise system in ways that are an inspiration to others.
• Uses his/her business skills and creativity to enrich the lives of the greater Mossel Bay community.
• Conducts business with integrity.
• Job creation.
• Growth and development of the company in various terms, such as sales value, profit levels
• Penetration of their market – success with product/service/sales.
• Notable specific achievements, personal and company within specific market.
• Recognised standing in local business community.
• Social responsibility activities.
• Standing within his/her specific industry.
• Passion for his/her work.
• Commitment to personal growth.
• High standard of ethical behavior.
• Positive attitude.
• A sense of commitment to the community.
• Skills and effective management style.
• Commitment to bettering business and staff.
• People management and development.
• Record of stability.
• Growth in employment.
• Growth in sales.
• The nominated company must be a member of the Mossel Bay Business Chamber. (Entrepreneur exempt from this compliance.)
• The nominated company must be registered in the Republic of South Africa.
• Include a short CV of the nominee and a motivation.
• Include the number of years the business has been operational.
• Nominations close on 30 October.
• The nominations must be sent by email to admin@mosselbaychamber.co.za
• The finalists must attend the gala function on 4 November.
• The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
