AGRIKULTUUUR NUUS - Met die langverwagte hervatting van Nampo Kaap 2022 ná ’n twee jaar lange afwesigheid weens Covid, kan besoekers uitsien na ’n magdom aktiwiteite, demonstrasies en aktiewe deelname.
Die organiseerders, in samewerking met uitstallers, het weereens verseker dat oud en jonk, manlik en vroulik by daaglikse gebeure betrokke is, wat ruim geleentheid bied om waar te neem, te leer, deel te neem en te geniet.
Hier is 'n paar hoogtepunte:
- Skaapskeer
Kom kyk hoe gesoute skeerders skape behendig binne sekondes van hul woljasse verlos. Maak seker jy mis nie hierdie demonstrasies wat daagliks om 11:00 en 14:00 in die Voermolsaal aangebied sal word nie.
- Taksidermie
Kom kyk hoe Ilze Struwig besig is om voëls, soogdiere, reptiele en visse voor te berei om lewensgetroue 3-D-voorstellings te skep vir uitstallings, of as trofeë en gedenktekens. Ilze is 'n selfopgeleide etiese taksidermis en sal daagliks haar unieke kuns en vaardigheid in die Shell Hall by NAMPO Kaap ten toon stel. Ilze spesialiseer in voëls en sal 'n paar gemonteerde eksemplare ten toon stel en te koop hê, so bring jou beursie saam om daardie pragtige, spesiale produk van die natuur, vir jou sitkamer of studeerkamer te bekom.
- Geoffrey Visser
Kom ons bly vir die oomblik by die natuur. Geoffrey Visser woon in Swellendam in die Wes-Kaap waar die diversiteit van plantelewe volop is. Met geen formele opleiding onder sy gordel nie, spesialiseer Geoffrey in botaniese illustrasie. Hy is ‘n lid van die Botaniese Kunstenaarsvereniging van Suider-Afrika (BAASA), sy kuns is meestal verkoop aan internasionale toeriste wat sy tuisdorp besoek. Geoffrey sal daagliks sy kunstalente wys as deel van die Nedbank-blomme-uitstalling Hy sal ook van sy werke uitgestal en te koop hê. Maak dubbel seker om hom tydens Nampo Kaap 2022 in die Voermolsaal te besoek.
- Vertikale Boerdery
Stel jy belang om jou eie groente te kweek, maar het nie die spasie of grond nie? Bbesoek die Waterwise-sentrum by Plot H, waar jy meer kan leer oor die praktyk van grondlose groeistelsels. Maak seker dat jy dr Ian Goldi ontmoet. Ian en sy personeel sal jou met graagte bekendstel aan die nuutste tegnieke en grondlose benaderings in akwaponika, hidroponika en akwakultuur, so hoekom maak jy nie 'n draai by hulle om meer te wete te kom oor hoe om jou eie onderneming aan te pak nie?
- Raakwater Bore
Mens kan dalk jou eie produkte produseer sonder grond, maar sonder water kan jy niks bereik nie en dit is waar Raakwater Bore in die prentjie kom. Soos die naam aandui, weet hierdie ouens wat hulle doen, met die een sukses na die ander. Hulle het selfs hul waarde bewys deur onlangs 'n suksesvolle boorgat by Bredasdorp Park, die tuiste van NAMPO Kaap 2022, te sink.
- Plant- en grondnavorsing
Goed voorbereide eksperimentele aanplantings wag op ondersoek wanneer 'n groot kontingent uitstallers vanjaar hul resultate by NAMPO Kaap gaan deel. Nege insetverskaffers gaan verskillende aspekte soos kultivars, kutivarkeuses, planttegnieke, plantdigthede, toerusting, gewasbeskerming, bemesting en vele meer toets. Raadpleeg jou programgids of die Nampo Kaap 2022-toepassing om meer uit te vind oor hul onderskeie demonstrasiepersele - 'n moet vir elke graanboer.
- Engen 4x4 baan
En wat is Nampo Kaap sonder die nuutste in 4 x 4 voertuie? Hierdie jaar word die program aangebied en gekoördineer deur Terrain Tamer en infanta 4x4. 'n Uitgebreide reeks 4x4-modelle van verskeie vervaardigers sal by die program betrokke wees.
Van Woensdag tot Saterdag sal gekwalifiseerde 4x4-instrukteurs hulle deur hul stappe op die onlangs opgegradeerde 4x4-baan sit. Demonstrasies sal twee keer daagliks om 10h00 en 14h00 op die Woensdag, Donderdag en Vrydag en om 10h00 op die Saterdagoggend plaasvind.
Besoekers sal ook die geleentheid gegun word om te deel in die ervaring as geregistreerde passasiers in die demonstrasievoertuie na ondertekening van die voorgeskrewe vrywaringsvorms.
Die demonstrasies hierbo genoem is maar 'n paar van baie. Besoekers word aangeraai om die program te bestudeer vir meer besonderhede oor ander demonstrasies wat in die loop van die ekspo aangebied word.
Toegangskaartjies
Toegangskaartjies is aanlyn beskikbaar by www.ticketpros.co.za maar daar sal ook kaartjies by die hekke verkoop word. Pryse is R80 vir volwassenes en R40 vir skoolgaande kinders.

NAMPO Cape 2022: A feast of Demonstrations
AGRICULTURE NEWS - With the long-awaited resumption of Nampo Cape 2022 after a two-year absence due to Covid, visitors can look forward to a myriad of activities, demonstrations and active participation.
The organisers in conjunction with exhibitors has, once more, ensured the involvement of young and old, male and female in daily events, providing ample opportunity to observe, learn, participate and enjoy.
Here are some of highlights.
- Sheep shearing
Come and see how seasoned shearers dexterously relieve sheep of their woollen coats in seconds. Make sure you don’t miss these demonstrations at 11:00 and 14:00 daily, in the Voermol Hall.
- Taxidermy
Come and watch Ilze Struwig at work preparing skins of birds, mammals, reptiles and fish to create lifelike 3-D representations for displays, or as trophies and memorials.
Ilze is a self-taught ethical taxidermist and will be showcasing her unique art and skill daily in the Shell Hall at NAMPO Cape. Ilze specializes in birds and will have some mounted specimens on display and for sale, so bring your wallet along to acquire that stunning, special product of nature, for your lounge or study.
- Geoffrey Visser
Let us stay with nature for the moment. Geoffrey Visser lives in Swellendam in the Western Cape where the diversity of plant life is abundant. With no formal training under his belt, Geoffrey specializes in botanical illustration. He is a member of the Botanical Artists' Association of Southern Africa (BAASA), his art has been sold mostly to international tourists visiting his hometown. Geoffrey will be showing his artistic talents daily as part of the Nedbank Flower Exhibition. He will also have some of his works on display and for sale. Make double sure to pay him a visit in the Voermol Hall during Nampo Cape 2022.
- Vertical Farming
Interested in growing your own vegetables but don’t have the space or soil? Why not, visit the Waterwise Centre at Plot H, where you can, inter alia, learn more about the practice of soilless growing systems. Be sure to meet with Dr Ian Goldi, the chief in charge of this set-up. Ian and his staff will gladly introduce you to the latest techniques and soilless approaches in aquaponics, hydroponics and aquaculture, so why not pay them a visit to learn more about embarking on your own enterprise?
- Raakwater Drilling
One can perhaps produce one’s own produce without soil, but without water you cannot achieve anything and that is where Raakwater Drilling comes into the picture. As the name implies, these guys know what they are doing, having one success after the other. They even proved their worth by recently sinking, a successful borehole at Bredasdorp Park, the home of NAMPO Cape 2022. Check the events programme for their daily drilling demonstrations, perhaps you are lucky to share in the excitement of striking an aquifer, a blow-out or at least learn some drilling jargon - all in all, a worthwhile experience!
- Plant and soil research
Well prepared experimental plantings are awaiting scrutiny when a large contingent of exhibitors will be sharing their results at NAMPO Cape this year. Nine input providers will be testing different aspects such as cultivars, cutivar choices, plant techniques, plant densities, equipment, crop protection, fertilizing and many more. Consult your programme guide or the Nampo Cape 2022 App to find out more about their respective demonstration plots - a must for every grain farmer.
- Engen 4x4 track
And what is Nampo Cape without the latest in 4 x 4 vehicles? This year, the programme will be presented and coordinated by Terrain Tamer and infanta 4x4. An extensive range of 4x4 models form various makers will be involved with the programme. From Wednesday to Saturday qualified 4x4 instructors will be putting them through their steps on the recently upgraded 4x4 track. Demonstrations will take place twice daily at 10h00 and 14h00 on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday and at 10:00 on Saturday morning.
Visitors will also be granted the opportunity to share in the experience as registered passengers in the demonstration vehicles after signing the prescribed indemnity forms.
The demonstrations mentioned above are but a few of many. Visitors are advised to study the programme for more detail on other demonstrations presented in the course of the expo.

Tickets are available online at www.ticketpros.co.za and will be sold at the gates. Prices are R80 for adults and R40 for school-going children. Preschool children enter for free.
