Fred van Zyl was vir jare lank 'n boer - eers op Napier en later van tyd Stellenbosch, Namibië en Richmond.Ná 40 jaar het hy een plaas oorgehou (waar sy seun, Derick, nou boer), boerdery gestaak, plase verkoop en kom "retreat, nie aftree nie" op Mosselbaai, sê hy. Spórt was egter nog al die jare voor die boerdery daar en bly steeds - dít sal nie sommer gestaak word nie."My gunstelingsport in hierdie stadium is bergfietsry en aquabiking, wat 'n kombinasie van swem en padfiets is - jy kan swem vir 1.5km en fietsry vir 40km of langer afstande."
