GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The media launch for the 10th annual Carpe Diem School Gourmets and Gourmands was held on Friday, 15 June at the Absolute Dance Studio and guests got a sneak peek at what to expect at this year's event.
It was a delightful afternoon, with Carpe Diem School learners performing their version of classic Indian dancing, Volkspele performed by Laerkool Eendracht from George and delicious Indian cuisine by the François Ferreira Academy.
The 2018 Carpe Diem School Gourmets and Gourmands will take place on 25 August with a theme of Boerekos and Bollywood.
Addressing guests at the media launch, François Ferreira, a staunch patron of Carpe Diem School, announced that hosting this event for the 10th year running is a great achievement for everybody involved.
Loyal sponsors of the Gourmets and Gourmands ensure that a professional event can be put forward each year. Hartman & Sons Butchery will be the lead sponsor for the sixth consecutive year. Andries Hartman thanked headmaster of Carpe Diem School, Karools Hauptfleisch, for the privilege to be involved in the event and said, "It is an uplifting experience for sponsors to know that the lives of the special needs children of Carpe Diem School are touched by the proceeds of this event."
Raffaele D'Amato Jewellers will for the fifth year donate a gorgeous piece to be auctioned. Nedbank will be on board for the second year as a sponsor and dedicated sponsors such as Xerox and Ciro coffee will help make the evening spectacular.
Each year several restaurants serve sumptuous food that complements the theme of the event, and this year the Garden Route community can expect big and spicy flavours.
The following will entice guests with superb dishes: François Ferreira Academy, Fat Fish, Rooi Kombuis, The Cellar, Su Casa, Augusta Grill, Pomodoro, Salina's, The Gannet, George Garden Route Game Lodge, Fancourt, 101 Meade, Turnberry Hotel, Thousand Sensations and Bistro Celeiro.
Guests can also look forward to wines from a variety of vineyards, expertly paired with each dish. As Gourmets and Gourmands is a SACA-approved function, the standard of cuisine will be of high quality.
Guests at this year's event can look forward to the deep, soothing voice of singer Mathys Roets. Funds raised will be allocated to acquire much-needed resources for Carpe Diem School's special needs learners. Carpe Diem School helps children from all over the Southern Cape and the school is an integral part of the Garden Route and Karoo communities.
