MOSSEL BAY SPORT NEWS - Mossel Bay's Chané Reinecke has been chosen for the Western Cape Nipper U14 team to take part in the Lifesaving South Africa (LSA) Pool and Surf Nipper Interprovincials in Durban at the end of this month.
Chané was included in the Western Cape team after competing on Sunday, 11 April, in the Western Cape Nipper Championships held at Milnerton Beach and hosted by Milnerton Surf Lifesaving Club in Cape Town.
Chané won gold in the beach sprints and bronze in the Malibu board race at Milnerton and these results secured her a place in the provincial team.
Tonya Schoeman, also from Mossel Bay, came fourth in the U13 beach sprints. The two girls were the only Nippers from the Eden district to take part in the competition in Cape Town. Both girls are members of the Mossel Bay Surf Lifesaving Club, based at Diaz Beach, and both happen to be home schooled.
Because of Covid-19 only U13s and U14s were accommodated in the Nippers competition at Milnerton and there were 155 competitors altogether. Mainly Cape Town clubs took part.
Chané is the only Nipper from Eden to be included in the Western Cape team, which consists of eight girls and six boys. The Pool Nipper Interprovincials are taking place on 24 and 25 April at Kings Park Pool, Durban, and the Surf Nipper Interprovincials take place on 26 April at Addington Beach, Durban.
