MOSSEL BAY NEWS - There will be plenty of action at Santos Beach, Mossel Bay, tomorrow, when the DHL Lifesaving South Africa Interprovincial Surf Championships take place.
The top, selected sport lifesavers from different provinces in South Africa will participate in a variety of contests, such as beach sprints, swims, surf ski paddling and Malibu board races.
These contests are fast and exciting to observe and spectators are welcome at the beach.
Team marshalling takes place at 07:45 and then the official opening of the championships starts at 08:00.
There will be a welcome and introduction by Warren Prins, vice-president of Lifesaving South Africa. Prins used to live in Mossel Bay.
A welcome by Mossel Bay mayor, Dirk Kotzé, will follow.
Rudi Boer, one of Mossel Bay's top sport lifesavers, who competes in the senior/open category, will read the athletes' oath.
Thereafter, the technical officials' oath will be read by Gerald de Jager. De Jager is a board member of Lifesaving South Africa. Prior to this he was chairman of Eden Lifesaving.
The national anthem will be sung and then the commencement of the championships will be declared by Craig Van Rooyen, the director of sport for Lifesaving South Africa.
