MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Twice in succession the Pinnacle Point golf course has been voted the best in South Africa, trumping 24 of South Africa’s best golf courses to claim the prestigious title yet again.
The Pinnacle Point Estate, home to one of the most spectacular golf courses in the world, has been voted South Africa’s Best Golf Course at the Annual World Golf Awards.
“To be internationally recognised as the golfing destination in South Africa for the second year in a row is a huge honour,” general manager of Pinnacle Point Estate, Carl van der Linde, said.
Morocco was declared Africa’s Best Golf Destination, ahead of South Africa, Egypt and Kenya.
The World Golf Awards celebrate and reward excellence in golf tourism, world class courses and golf destinations.
Now in its fourth year, the awards are considered the most prestigious awards programme in the golf tourism industry.
Hundreds of thousands of ballots were cast ahead of the gala ceremony, which took place at Spain’s La Manga Club on Saturday, 25 November.
Votes were cast online by professionals working within the golf travel and tourism industry.
The voting worked on a first-past-the-post system to ensure impartiality and independence.
The 2017 World Golf Awards focused on the leading 130 nations who are shaping the future of this dynamic industry.
In the overall rankings for this year, Portugal was declared the World’s Best Golf Destination for the fourth year in a row, with St Andrews Links - Old Course in Scotland named the World’s Best Golf Course, celebrating the number one world ranking since the inception of the World Golf Awards in 2014.
