MOSSEL BAY GOLF NEWS - In perfect midwinter weather conditions, the Super Spar-sponsored monthly medal and putting competition of the Mossel Bay ladies' golf section took place last Thursday.
Low scores were anticipated due to the mild, wind-free conditions, however reality proved to be the opposite.
Whether it was the super-fast greens or the tricky pin positions or possibly even the tense mindset engendered by the medal format, who knows?
But, those who triumphed on the day were pleasantly surprised to find themselves in the prizes, having played higher than normal strokes. The lively prize giving was conducted by our able captain, Letitsha Higgs, who announced the winners as follows: first in the Silver division was Annette Pretorius (78 nett). The runner-up was Tracy Venter (79 nett).
First in the Bronze division was Hettie Bruwer (72 nett). The runner-up was Marita Pienaar with 76 nett. First in the Copper division was Mariaan Hadiaris (78 nett) and Rosie Gerber was counted out to second place. Annette Pretorius and Betsie Fourie shared the putting honours with 30 putts apiece. Gloria Greyvenstein was nearest the pin on the 15th. A total of 26 players competed. Grateful thanks to Super Spar for its generous sponsorship.
Following the prize giving a fond farewell was bade to former member Doreen Steyn, who moves to Johannesburg shortly. She will be sadly missed. Doreen provided tasty snack platters supplied by our restaurant which were enjoyed by all. Our grande dame, Edie Edwards, was also warmly welcomed. She celebrates her 90th birthday this week and is frankly quite amazing!
