GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers Academy last week defeated by 239 runs the Fort Hare Academy in a three-day game at NMU's Saasveld Campus in George.
The Badgers, who batted first, posted 441 all-out, reaching the mammoth total thanks to centuries by Kyle Jacobs (158) and Heath Richards (102).
Fort Hare was dismissed for 232 runs in their first innings with Tyrece Karelse (3/20) and Enathi Kitshini (3/37) the pick of the Badgers bowlers.
The Badgers declared in their second innings on 167/4 with Richards (55*) and Jacobs (43) again the top scorers. Stefan May also scored 42 for the men from the Garden Route.
Having set Fort Hare a target of 377, Arend Visser excelled with 7/25 while Liviwe Bawuli (2/8) provided valuable support as the Badgers won by 239 runs.
This victory was valuable preparation for the Badgers Colts team who will take on Boland in a Three- and One-Day match in Paarl this weekend.
The Badgers Colts squad for the weekend is: Matthew Christensen, Mark Andrianatos, Stefan May, Hayden Sweet (captain), Heath Richards, Liyabona Malife, Joof Enslin, Arend Visser, Grant Esau, Mesuli Vuba, Enathi Khitshini, Thurstin Murphy and Jarred Jardine.
