After only managing 189 with the bat, South Africa bowled the Aussies out for 142 thanks to five wickets from the three spinners selected to start the match.
Farhaan Behardien, who was named Man of the Match for his 62, says the batsmen are hoping to make a bigger impact in the remaining matches.
"Apparently St Kitts and Barbados offers a bit more pace and bounce. Hopefully the tracks there will be a little more in favour of the batters. Shamsi, Immy and Phangiso did really well tonight on a slower track."
Behardien says their bravery was rewarded.
