GARDEN ROUTE DISTRICT SPORT NEWS - On 18 October, six local athletes took to the road in Oudtshoorn, tackling various distances in participating in the Cape Town Virtual Marathon.
Carla Bezuidenhout and Tonya Schoeman, both of Mossel Bay, as well as Anderson Ncube, John April, Patrick van der Ross and Gerrit Hendriks, mostly from Oudtshoorn, all signed up to Run for Change - a project whereby athletes raise money for people in need.
Bezuidenhout said: "For us athletes it is about more than a time, prize and podium finish. It's about giving back, while we do what we love."
She said: "The event was a great success and all of us completed with more than satisfactory results."
On behalf of the six athletes, she thanked the community for the help they had received and every single donation. "The support was overwhelming."
The #RideAlong family wishes to thank the following (in no specific order): Bicycle Garage, Slow Fructo, School of Skills Oudtshoorn, staff of the School of Skills, Toyota Oudtshoorn, Charl and Benita Gerber, Deidre Cloete and the support cyclists.
