MOSSEL BAY NEWS & VIDEOS - Mossel Bay Mayor Dirk Kotzé unveiled the Iconic Heritage Tunnel at Pinnacle Point, outside Mossel Bay, on Heritage Day, Saturday 24 September.
One goes through the tunnel to the Pinnacle Point caves. In the tunnel are mosaic panels.
The mosaic project was led by the Pinnacle Point Arts and Culture Association. The 50 metre-long tunnel leads to Eden Bay Beach.
Sharpened stones found in the Pinnacle Point caves are believed by archaeologists to have been made and used by prehistoric man as tools and there is currently a quest for the Pinnacle Point caves to be a World Heritage site.
It is believed the 84-panel mosaic artwork in the tunnel will be “one of the largest mosaic showpieces in the Southern Hemisphere”.
