MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay municipal councillor and Western Cape leader of Icosa, Dawid Kamfer is on the red carpet after allegedly overstepping in terms of the code of conduct for municipal councillors.
"At a council meeting on 20 July, is was decided that the Code of Conduct Committee will investigate the matter against Councillor Kamfer," said municipal spokesperson, Nickey le Roux. The decided action includes the following:
• That cognisance be taken of the report received from the Speaker, Alderman Petru Terblanche and that it be accepted.• That the matter be referred to the Code of Conduct Committee to investigate and make a finding on the alleged breach of the Code of Conduct and to make an appropriate recommendation to Council.
• That the outcome of the investigation be reported to the MEC for Local Government. In terms of Item 13 of the Code of Conduct the Speaker of a Municipal Council must, if on reasonable suspicion that a provision of the Code has been breached, authorise an investigation, give the Councillor reasonable opportunity to reply in writing and report the matter to the Municipal Council. The Speaker must also report the outcome of the investigation to the MEC for Local Government.
Le Roux confirmed that the committee consists of Alderman Barnie Groenewald (Chairperson), and Cllrs Annatjie Janse van Rensburg, Niklaas Booisen, Anton Delemijn (secondi), Stanford Mbandezi, Peter Lechaba and Jovan Bruinders (secondi).
Councillor Kamfer declined to comment at this stage.
