MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Although National Women's Day is celebrated on 9 August, it has become customary to dedicate the entire month of August to the fairer sex, whose often dainty shoes can hardly be filled properly by the other members of society.
This year, the Garden Route Casino is joining hands with the Mossel Bay Municipality in presenting a month-long programme in honour of women in the community.
This week, various role players put their heads together to discuss the roll-out of the programme, starting on 1 August.
From 1 to 31 August, all organisations and groups involved with the empowerment of women in the greater Mossel Bay area are invited to set up a display or stall showcasing their work, at the Garden Route Casino.
This offers an ideal opportunity for those working in arts and crafts as part of local economic empowerment among women in the community, to present their work on a public platform.
Participation can be secured by making up and donating back-to-school goodie bags for less privileged learners. These bags will ultimately be added to those distributed by the casino at the beginning of the new school year in 2017.

How many unsung heroes, especially among women, are told they are appreciated? On Tuesday, 9 August, an awards ceremony will be held during a Women Making History high tea at the Bravo Lounge, Garden Route Casino, in celebration of those women who make a difference.
Nominees and their guests will be treated to a morning of entertainment and complimentary snacks.
Be it a traffic controller, a home-based carer, a waitress with bubbly personality or a dish washer that sings like an angel - nominate someone you believe needs to be thanked for being a "woman making history".
Nominations can be hand-delivered to the offices of the Mossel Bay Advertiser or emailed to cornelle@groupeditors.co.za. Office hours are Mondays to Thursdays, 08:00 to 17:00, and Fridays, 08:00 to 13:00.
Age categories include learner (up to the age of 16), youth (17 to 35 years old), adult (36 to 65 years old) and veteran (66 years old and upward).

Diamonds are a girl's best friend
The Women's Month celebrations at the Garden Route Casino include a corporate lunch at the Bravo Lounge on Tuesday, 16 August.
Themed Denim and Diamonds, ladies with a love for bling and things that glitter have much to look forward to.
More information on the programme will be available soon. Tickets will be available soon at R100 and will include a sumptuous platter, giveaways and entertainment, with a grand prize for a lucky winner to top it off.
