MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Valentine's Day has always been extra special for Val Murray and her family.
Born on 14 February 1924, Val celebrated her 101st birthday today, Valentine's Day.
Val has a rich family history, dating back to the 1800s.
She is the granddaughter of Reverend Thomas Sheard, who came to Mossel Bay from England in about 1854.
Sheard became the first rector of the Anglican Church in Mossel Bay, now known as St Peter's Anglican Church in Marsh Street.
Throughout her life, Val has cultivated much love. She has two sons, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

"My mom was very talented. She loved painting, doing cross-stitch, pewter work and was always creating beautiful things," said Mike Keet, one of Val's sons.
Val was active in the Somerset West Methodist Church with her late husband Douglas Murray.
The church, the love of her late husband and all of her dear friends are the inspirations and driving forces for Val.
"It is just sad that most of her dear friends have passed away," said Mike.
Val moved to Mossel Bay 12 years ago to live with Mike. She has been a resident of the
Groenkloof Great Brak Retirement Village for two years.
