MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The police are probing the murder of a woman (79) at Pinnacle Point Estate outside Mossel Bay.
Police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie said the regional Garden Route Police had activated a 72-hour plan through the mobilisation of specialised units and forensic experts.
They have been working together since the body of the woman was found on Saturday, 4 June, at a house in Albatross Street, Pinnacle Point.
Preliminary information suggests that the husband (85) of the deceased alerted the neighbour’s caretaker about his wife at about 10:00 yesterday morning. They then went to inspect and the witness found the deceased in the bedroom. They immediately alerted local police, who responded rapidly.
Upon arrival police found the body of the deceased, Margaretha S. Willemse, in a chair in the bedroom with a wound to the neck. Her 85-year-old husband was admitted to hospital with multiple stab wounds.
The room was covered with bloodstains. Forensic experts are still on the scene, busy combing for clues that can assist the police in the investigation.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident form part of the investigation,” Pojie says. Police are investigating a murder as well as an attempted murder case, he says.
“The motive at this stage is not clear. Burglary cannot be ruled out. All possibilities are being probed,” Pojie notes.
“We appeal to anyone with information to contact the investigation officer, Warrant Officer Geoffrey Moos (044 606 5631, 079 163 7659) or crime Stop (08600 10111). All information will be dealt with confidentially.”
