MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Learners of the Imekhaya Primary School, teachers and members of the community this morning marched on the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court to oppose bail of a 62-year-old man accused of raping one of the school's pupils.

The Family violence, Child protection and Sexual offences unit (FCS) based in Da Gamaskop arrested a 62 year old man this morning (2014-11-27) at approximately 09:00 at his house following the rape of a 8 year old girl.

On 26 November at about 08:00 the seven year old pupil was walking to school when the 62-year old suspect approached her in Cedile Street, Kwanonqaba. The suspect took the victim to his house where he allegedly assaulted and raped her.

The victim escaped from the house after the rape and was taken to a hospital in Mossel Bay and was discharged after medical treatment.

The suspect appeared in the Mossel Bay Magistrates’ court this morning. As his attorney wasn't present, the case has been postponed to 18 December.
