MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The title and status of Alderman was conferred upon Chief Whip of Mossel Bay Municipality and Speaker of Garden Route District Municipality, Barnie Groenewald.
The same honour was bestowed on Rosina Ruiters, the Deputy Executive Mayor of the Garden Route District Municipality and councillor at the Mossel Bay Municipality.
Ruiters will henceforth be addressed as Alderlady.
The title is bestowed upon councillors who, among other criteria, have served on one or more local government bodies within the Republic of South Africa over the course of several years; particularly as an elder and are generally expected to mentor, advise, share their experiences and create a sense of unity for their communities.
