MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Research findings by Good Governance Africa places Mossel Bay in the top spot as the best performing municipality in the country.
The Government Performance Index that was just made public indicates that two of the top three municipalities, Mossel Bay and Swartland, are from the Western Cape.
"As executive mayor of Mossel Bay I congratulate the members of council, the municipal executive and all of the employees. The hard work, dedication to service delivery and focus on sound management policy and strategies have paid off handsomely," executive mayor of Mossel Bay, Harry Levendal told the Mossel Bay Advertiser.
Of the top 20 top performers, the majority (60%) are in the Western Cape, namely Mossel Bay, Swartland, Bergrivier, Cape Agulhas, Prince Albert, Swellendam, Cederberg, Matzikama, Overstrand, Witzenberg, Hessequa and Langeberg.
All except three of these municipalities are DA-led.
Prince Albert is run by a DA-KGP coalition, Witzenberg by a DA-COPE coalition and Hessequa is run by a DA-FF+ coalition.
The report states: "Turning to where political parties fare best, all of the top-scoring DA-led municipalities are in the Western Cape, the eight exceptions being coalition-led municipalities, all of which include the DA."
Half of the top best-performing municipalities are also DA led.
The party’s five best performing municipalities are, in order, Mossel Bay, Swartland, Bergrivier, Cape Agulhas and Prince Albert.
These generally perform well in the administrative, service delivery and economic development indicators. Good Governance Africa is a registered pan-African, non-profit organisation.
The Western Cape MEC of Finance, Dr Ivan Meyer congratulated the executive mayor of Mossel Bay with the Municipality's first place ranking in SA for good governance. "I am truly proud of your achievement."
