MOSSEL BAY NEWS - This week groundsmen were hard at work preparing the D'Almeida Sports Stadium in Mossel Bay for the Supersport Rugby Challenge Festival to take place this Sunday, 12 May.
Also, the local organising committee was putting the finishing touches to arrangements.
At its monthly meeting on Thursday, 25 April, the Mossel Bay Town Council approved the use of the D'Almeida Stadium for the rugby festival.
The festival is an initiative of the SA Rugby Union and Supersport to take provincial rugby to the people. Entrance to the event is free of charge. The key match, SWD Eagles vs Zimbabwe, will kick off at 14:00.
The gates of the stadium will open at 06:30 on Sunday.
On the B Field, Barbarians C play George C at 07:30 and Barbarians B play George B at 08:45.
On the A Field, Barbarians A play George A at 10:00; EP Elephants play Toyota Free State XV at 12:00; and then SWD Eagles play Zimbabwe at 14:00
The A Field matches will be televised on Supersport.
All arrangements regarding the rugby festival have been dealt with jointly by the SWD Rugby Union, the Barbarians Rugby Club, and the Mossel Bay Municipality. The municipality is supporting the festival financially.
No alcohol is allowed at the festival.
