MOSSELBAAI NUUS - The very first trial Mossel Bay RC Fly-in was hosted at the Mossel Bay Aerodome last weekend.
One of the organisers, a member of the Mossel Bay Radio Flyers RC Flying Club, Hein Groenewald, said the day was a huge success.
Saturday 28 February was a planned once-off event at the aerodrome, as the flying club shares resources at the same location.
“It is an open-air event on the runway of the airfield. Entertainment was in the form of radio-controlled aircraft and helicopters doing speed trials throughout the day. This event is done to increase the presence of RC flying,” said Groenewald.
He said they wanted to see how it all worked out, and if there was potential to host an even bigger event, perhaps twice a year. “We want to draw more people and raise awareness about RC flying. It really is a fun sport, and not many people understand how it works.”
Groenewald thanked his co-organisers, André Swanepoel and Martin van Staden, as well as Mario Febbraio, Jan Marais and Steve Beck of the aerodome who not only granted permission for the day, but were there to assist them throughout with monitoring and safety.
