MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay's Ulrich Witte competed in the 2025 African Wrestling Championships in Casablanca, Morocco.
Witte (22), weighing 86kg, took part in the senior freestyle division and was up against eight opponents in the championships, which took place from 29 April to 4 May.
Unfortunately he lost 15-5 in his first match and was therefore knocked out of the competition.
He came seventh.
In Witte's competition, wrestlers from Egypt, Senegal and Algeria came first, second and third respectively.
Witte is ranked number one in his category in South Africa.
He is a member of the Mossel Bay Wrestling Club, where he is also a coach.
Head coach of the club, Christo van Staden, said: "It is a privilege having Ulrich in Mossel Bay. He has much talent, skill and expertise."
The SA senior freestyle wrestlers came ninth out of 20 countries at the championships.
