MOSSEL BAY CRICKET NEWS - The sixth Mossel Bay U13 Cricket Festival will take place from 25 to 28 September at the Van Riebeeck Stadium.
It forms part of the annual Mossel Bay Sport and Recreation Festival.
Approximately 168 children and 30 officials will be participating in at least 34 T20 cricket matches, played over four days.
The cricket festival has a strong emphasis on having fun.
The tournament is organised by the Mossel Bay Cricket Club (MBCC) and SWD Cricket. "Our objectives for the tournament are to make a festival of it, not only a tournament. It is for everyone to enjoy what he or she loves to do," says Dirk Lewis, chairman of MBCC.
"We also want to enhance the development of U13 Cricket in the SWD and ultimately strengthen SWD cricket as well as be a window and tool for the SWD Cricket development and excellence programmes.
We wish to support the Mossel Bay Municipality's mission, to become the 'sports capital of the Southern Cape'," says Lewis.
Lewis also states that this is a way to help give the Mossel Bay community an economic injection by attracting teams from outside Mossel Bay.
Teams to participate include Kathu, Kempston Suns, Curro Huskies, Curro Wolfs, Delfo's, Edgemead, Durbanville, D'Almeida, Mossel Bay, Cape Challengers, Thembalethu Hub, Rosemore, Belville and Bridgton.
