ATHLETICS NEWS - While the national teams struggled to compete for podium places at recent international road running and cross country championships, Athletics South Africa (ASA) President, Aleck Skhosana has urged athletes to keep working hard in their pursuits as part of the federation's long-term plans.
At the IAAF World Half-Marathon Championships in Valencia last weekend, the country's long-running medal drought was extended to 19 years, but the performances indicated there was gradual improvement.
Stephen Mokoka, the best of the SA men, settled for 16th place in a tough race, though his time of 1:01:26 was the second quickest by a South African at the global championships in the last 16 years.
