MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Hartenbos Drawwers running club is hosting its next family fun day this Sunday, 19 August.
A fun run/walk is planned for the day, starting on the beach in front of the clubhouse at Dias Beach.
The route will take you towards the Hartenbos River Mouth and there will be the option of a 10km or 5km distance.
The Drawwers' loyal supporters will provide two waterpoints so there will be plenty of refreshments along the way.
They thought it would be a good idea to clean up the beach while enjoying themselves.
Therefore, they have christened the fun run/walk, Pirates of Plastic. "Bring along a plastic packet and let's do our share for the environment. If each athlete can pick up just one or two items of unwanted debris we will make a huge difference to the state of our beaches," says Allison Nell of the Drawwers.
There will be a prize for the best-dressed pirate, who will be judged after the event. In order to win, all athletes must be present after the event.
Spot prizes will also be handed out. These include prizes sponsored by Cango Caves, Buffelsdrift game lodge, Turnberry Hotel, Cango Ostrich Farm and Botlierskop game lodge.
Registration can be done at the clubhouse from 10:45 and the cost per person is R20 for both adults and children.
There will be a staggered start between 11:30 and 12:00, therefore, once athletes have entered, they can start. This will not be a timed event and no recognition will be given for first, second and third places.
"The idea is for the whole family to enjoy the day together. A 'special' medal will be presented to every participant. Bring along your picnic basket and share the day with us. Hartenbos Drawwers will provide the wood and fires as well as the braai grills."
Refreshments will be on sale.
