TOURISM NEWS - The DA in the Western Cape has welcomed the news that Cape Town has once again been named the Best City in the World by readers of The Telegraph.
The DA said this latest accolade, the seventh of its kind, is a clear reflection of the city’s exceptional tourism offering and international appeal.
It also marks the second time in 2025 that Cape Town has earned this distinction, following its earlier recognition by Time Out in January.
The DA's spokesperson on tourism, MPP Noko Masipa said with over 20 000 UK travellers casting their votes, Cape Town outranked global giants like Seville, Sydney and Tokyo.
"This success is more than symbolic. Tourism is one of the Western Cape’s most important economic sectors, driving job creation and investment across the province.
For example, the 2023/24 cruise season contributed over R1,32 billion to the regional economy, supporting more than 2 000 jobs.
In the same year, Cape Town International Airport saw a record-breaking 3,08 million passengers arrive in our province.
Masipa commended Wesgro, the City of Cape Town and all parties involved for their continued efforts to position our province as a leading global tourism destination.
