NATIONAL NEWS - East London police are investigating a murder case after a body of a female infant was discovered outside public toilets in the city on Sunday afternoon.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala says a Buffalo City Municipal cleaner was informed by children who found the body in refuse bags.

She says the cleaner did not notice that there was a body when she took out the bags for collection.

Mqala says they suspect that the mother might have suffocated the baby in the bag and left her to die.

The child was about 9 months old.

No arrests have been made.
