NATIONAL NEWS - Astron Energy South Africa suspended all work on its Milnerton Refinery plant following an explosion which occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The energy company confirmed in a statement that the incident occurred at the plant at approximately 4am and has been contained.
However, it is unsure if any employees were injured or died during the incident.
“Astron Energy immediately activated its emergency response procedures and notified the relevant authorities. The resultant fire has been contained and all work on the plant has been suspended,” the company said.
“Our priority is to ensure the safety of all those on site and further information will be provided as soon as we have confirmed the details,” the company added.
