The organisation has once again appealed to the public to donate blood, even as the festive season draws to a close.
SANBS' Thapelo Mokoena says there are millions of eligible donors in the country who find it easy to ignore the call for donations.
“Most people are afraid of the needles, but many don’t want to take the time to donate blood. We need to have that empathy where you become a blood donor. You need to be someone who wants to help someone you don’t even know.”
The Western Province Blood Transfusion Services' Marlize van der Merwe says the province’s stocks are extremely low.
