MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Fire services are on the scene of a fire at the Mossel Bay transfer station which was reported on Thursday evening, 12 March.
According to the Mossel Bay Municipality the report came in at about 20:00 last night.
“Upon arrival, crews found a large area of decomposing material alight. Firefighters worked through the night to contain and extinguish a deep-seated fire, which has proven challenging due to the nature of the material involved. Fresh crews are currently on scene, having relieved the night shift, and firefighting operations are ongoing.
“Excavators have now been deployed to assist with the firefighting efforts by breaking up and exposing the affected material. Extreme heat conditions are further exacerbating the situation and continue to hamper suppression efforts.”
The municipality said fire services remain on site and will continue to monitor and manage the situation until the fire is fully extinguished.
