MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Endangered Species Day is celebrated on the third Friday of May.
Sibaphiwe Tentu, senior environmental officer of the Mossel Bay Municipality, said the commemoration was initiated as a way to remind us how fragile the existence of some animals, plants, and insects is, and to encourage us to learn why it is so important to protect these species.
An event, commemorating the day, will take place on Friday, 17 May, from 11:00 to 13:00 at Isalathiso Primary School, KwaNonqaba.
On Endangered Species Day, it is important to remember the crucial role all species play in maintaining the delicate balance of our ecosystems.
Each organism, no matter how large or small, contributes to the rich tapestry of life on our planet.
As the day is honoured, a moment will be taken to reflect on the actions that we as humans can take to protect and preserve endangered species.
Whether it is through supporting conservation efforts, raising awareness about the importance of biodiversity, or making sustainable choices in our daily lives, we all have a part to play in ensuring a brighter future for these vulnerable creatures.
