MOSSEL BAY NEWS - It was a day filled with beaming smiles and great excitement from both the parents and children of the Great Brak River area who participated in the Little Einsteins’ Preschool Athletics Day on Saturday 7 March.
The event was held at the Pine Creek Private Holiday Resort in Great Brak River, owned by John Imbrailo, the father of the host school, Little Einsteins’ principal, Isobel.
This is the 11th annual instalment of this athletics day, which saw the Little Einsteins Dag- en Nasorg, Plaasjapies Dag- en Nasorg, Diepkloof Preprimary, Vorentoe Preprimary and Little Mouse Montessori School learners all participate.
With a beautifully sunny day ahead, each school set up a gazebo along the track decorated in their school colours, balloons and ribbons. Parents, grandparents, relatives and friends sat on chairs that lined the other side of the track. Food stalls and activity areas were also set up.
The athletics day began with an introduction from Isobel, who was then joined by the well-known digital storyteller, Nikki du Toit, also known as Lekker Nikki, as the co-MC for the day.

The attendees were also treated to an electrifying performance by the Urban Dance Co’s dancers before the day’s races began.
There was much excitement among the parents of the participating learners, who seemed equally excited to dart off down the track towards their waiting parents once the starting whistle blew.
While there were one or two grumpy faces on those learners who did not want to run, or run without their parents or teachers holding their hands, their frowns did not last long, thanks to the festivities of the day.
The parents and staff had their own race before the prize-giving and the event’s conclusion.
Isobel said this event is a yearly highlight on everyone’s calendars. She thanked each person for their attendance and thanked everyone, including the sponsors, for contributing to the athletics day and making it yet another success.
She said her school’s motto was something she would like to leave with everyone: “Lig jou ken... en ken jou lig!”
