MOSSEL BAY NEWSFLASH - A large yacht ran aground at about 16:00 on Santos Beach on Wednesday, 6 December.
The anchor chain broke and strong easterly winds drove the yacht on to the beach, where it listed in the shallow water, keel stuck in the sand.
A Polish couple on board had earlier experienced motor problems and were unable to start the motor when the anchor broke.
A member of the public called the NSRI, which launched two rescue craft and took a tow rope to the yacht.
It was towed to a safe mooring at the Mossel Bay Yacht and Boat Club.
