GARDEN ROUTE DISTRICT NEWS - The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) in the Southern Cape is starting a programme aimed to prevent the type of looting and public violence which took place in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
It is a bid to prevent these types of activities in communities in the Garden Route district.
In a statement, Sanco Southern Cape noted: "We will start the programme in the Mossel Bay Sub Region in the week of 26 July. All stakeholders will be invited to participate in the programme."

Sanco stated that the secretariat of the organisation met virtually to discuss, among other things, the events that took place in Gauteng and Kwazulu-Natal.
"We categorise the events in both provinces as insurrection which threatened the national security of South Africa," the organisation noted.
"Sanco leadership calls for restraint and calm in the Western Cape and Garden Route district. We call on all our structures and communities to resist and desist from participating in such destructive acts, and work with law enforcement agencies to quell any lawlessness.
"We ask the business sector to work with civil society organisations in preventing these acts of criminality in all the towns of the Western Cape and Garden Route region."
Sanco called on all law enforcement agencies to, where practicable, deal swiftly with the cases of insurrection. "All those found guilty must face the full might of the law."
