MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Tambo FM, a local internet radio station started broadcasting in June 2020.
It was not the ideal time to be a start-up business, in the middle of lockdown, but despite the odds Tambo FM celebrated its official launch on Friday, 30 April, at the Bravo Lounge.
Founder and owner of the radio station, Olwethu Ndabankulu, told the Mossel Bay Advertiser that the launch was testimony that "dreams come true".
Ndabankulu started the station, with its 80% isiXhosa listenership, with the blessing of the family of Oliver Tambo, to honour the name of the South African icon.
Currently broadcasting from the Thusong Centre, Tambo FM has 25 presenters, all locals.
Ndabankulu says that despite broad interest from all over the country, his first responsibility is towards the local community.
He told the Advertiser that in June, for the station's first birthday, several community outreach programmes were on the cards.
