MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A dog who lives in Mossel Bay called Ziggie recently celebrated his 20th birthday.
His owner, Jackie Matimba, says the family can't believe Ziggie has been part of their lives for such a long time.
Ziggie, a cross breed, came into Jackie's life in 2001.
"My first child was born in 2012 so Ziggie has been like a child to me."
She says Ziggie is still like a child to her, even though she now has children of her own.
Ziggie follows Jackie around wherever she goes. His vision is poor now and his sense of smell has diminished and his limbs are weaker. Jackie says she takes Ziggie for regular walks, but has to carry him most of the way.
"He still gets excited when I come home from work. Ziggie loves sleeping on my bed and his favourite meat is chicken," says Jackie.
Jackie says she knows that Ziggie's days are numbered. "I kiss him over and over everyday so that he knows I appreciate him."
