Update
MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Vehicles were allowed to cross the previously barricaded part of Mayixhale Street shortly after 18:30 on Friday afternoon, 31 August, after traffic calming measures were installed by the Mossel Bay Municipality.
This followed a week of inconvenience for road users after angry residents first created their own makeshift speed humps and then dug a trench across the road after a three-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle on Mayixhale Street on Friday, 24 August. The child was hospitalised and discharged after treatment.
For the sake of motorists' safety, law enforcement officers were forced to close the road to traffic.
The municipality repaired the road surface and installed the traffic calming measures late on Friday afternoon, much to the delight of nearby residents and road users.
