MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay Municipality has recently completed the upgrading of the existing 66/11kV substation in Da Nova at a cost of about R10 million.
The substation has been in service for more than 30 years and some of the electrical equipment has become obsolete.
The upgrading involved the replacement of the existing steel structures in the 66kV yard, the complete refurbishment of the existing two transformers, the installation of a third, 10MVA transformer and the installation of modern, medium voltage switchgear.
The project was implemented in phases over two financial years, due to the long lead times on securing major electrical equipment.
The upgrading of the substation will ensure the electricity supply to the Mossel Bay CBD and surrounding areas is more reliable and that sufficient capacity is available for future load growth.
