MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Lovers of live orchestral and choral music were warmed by a spirited performance by the Carpe Musicam! Choir and Orchestra on Sunday, 25 June, in Mossel Bay.
It was a cold, rain-lashed afternoon. It was surprising there was such a good turnout in the town hall.
The concert was titled, All Creatures Great and Small, and all the pieces had something to do with animals.

The Carpe Musican! Youth Orchestra played background music before the concert proper.
Pieces which stood out were the theme from the movie, Jaws; the Minute Waltz by Frédéric Chopin; the Two Little Bullfinches piccolo duet by Henri Kling; the theme from The Pink Panther; and Tico Tico no Fuba by Zequinha de Abreu.
The audience was even treated to a flourish of Spanish dancing and castanet playing during El Gato Montes by Manuel Penella.
Conductor Norman Carless kept everyone entertained with his relaxed humour and effortless wit. He boosts his musicians constantly and is especially kind and encouraging to the children in the orchestra.
It was a feel-good event. What makes the music most remarkable is that Carless adapts the pieces to suit the musicians, some of whom only play music part time and are not experienced, making the pieces still sound tremendous.
Musicians in deep concentration.
