Update
MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The NSRI in Mossel Bay attended to three emergencies in Mossel Bay from Friday to Sunday.
JC Roos, NSRI Mossel Bay deputy station commander, said: "At 10:45 on Sunday, 10 December, NSRI Mossel Bay duty crew, aboard the sea rescue craft St Blaze Rescuer and accompanied by a Mossel Bay Fire and Rescue Services rescue paramedic, while laying the safe demarcating floatation buoys, offshore of Santos Beach and Dias Beach, noticed a commotion at Santos Beach and diverted to investigate.
"On arrival on the scene it was found that lifeguards had rescued a 27-year-old Mossel Bay man from the water.
"The fire rescue paramedic was deployed from our sea rescue craft to the beach and he initiated medical treatment to the man.
"Our NSRI rescue vehicle, ER24 ambulance services and By Grace ambulance services were summoned and the man, in a stable condition, was transported to hospital by a By Grace ambulance."
Jetski
Then at 12:45, the NSRI was called after a man fell off his jetski at the Mossel Bay harbour wall. With strong winds buffeting the bay at the time, he appeared to be unable to swim back to his jetski, Roos said.
The NSRI sea rescue craft, St Blaze Rescuer, was despatched and NSRI volunteers assisted the 54-year-old man, from Gansbaai, to get back to his jetski and once back at his jetski he continued on his way, requiring no further assistance.
Paddler
At 11:10 on Friday, 8 December, NSRI Mossel Bay was alerted to a lone paddler reported to be in difficulty offshore of the Point.
The sea rescue craft, St Blaze Rescuer, was launched and NSRI volunteers in a sea rescue vehicle responded to the land side.
According to a press release by the NSRI, a 36-year-old woman, reported to be solo paddling from Sedgefield to Alexander Bay, was found to be hypothermic on her paddle craft.
She was brought to the sea rescue base aboard the sea rescue craft (her kayak was also recovered) and was treated for Hypothermia by By Grace ambulance services paramedics.
After successful treatment, she has been collected from the base by friends and she required no further assistance.
