MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Flying Eagles FC from Mossel Bay dropped some important points in their away game against Simunye FC at Lawaaikamp Stadium, George, during their Safa Eden Regional Men’s League fixture on Saturday morning, 28 February
The Eagles finally bent the knee on 1-0.
Simunye FC started the game on a fast pace. Sihle van Rensburg built their passes from the centre. Prince Ntsabo of Flying Eagles pushed for the first goal on the right side of the field, but to no avail. The Eagles’ captain, Siyanda Sizani, played well at the back, marshalling his side.
Simunye’s 17-year-old Yongama Koeberg sent a powerful shot from just outside the box, however, Sive Malgas (Flying Eagles’ goalkeeper) made a brilliant save, denying Koeberg his chance and seeing to it that the first half ended goalless.
Sharp second-half play
The second half started on fire with both sides looking sharp.
The Flying Eagles’ Siyanda Chango controls the ball, with Sindile Magubane of Simunye on the defence.
Flying Eagles went forward, favouring the right side of the field. Simunye’s centre mid, Shane Booysen, was looking very clever on the ball, creating more chances inside the box. The Simunye wingers also had the Eagles’ defenders working overtime, having to block their dangerous attacks.
Thando Chango of the Flying Eagles on the ball.
And then came the Simunye draw-breaker. Luzuko Sabelesiva kept pressing on the flanks, frustrating the Flying Eagles’ backline - after beating Malgas with a powerful shot, he finally broke the deadlock and scored the first and only goal of the game.
