HARTENBOS NEWS - A Hartenbos girl has done extremely well in the national Talent Africa competition and she is going on to compete in the international Stars of the Universe competition.
Lara Meyer, who plays the violin, signed in for the regional leg of Talent Africa and made it to the nationals.
Stars of the Universe
In the nationals, Lara was awarded a Diamond ranking for Instrumental, as well as the overall Instrumentalist winner title, and so qualified to enter for the international Stars of the Universe competition.
The national leg of Talent Africa is an online and live competition, for which Lara sent in videos.
One can choose to compete live or send in a video.
Lara, who is home schooled, has been playing the violin since she was seven years old.
Final exam
In her Grade 8 final exam last December, she achieved 94%.
Her Talent Africa competition journey began with the regional leg on 28 July this year.
That leg was a live competition in Mossel Bay.
Lara achieved a high gold for Instrumental Contemporary.
Videos
She sent her videos in for the national, virtual competition in September and the judging took place on 2 October.
Her Diamond ranking for Instrumental was announced on the Talent Africa website results page.
Lara's overall Instrumentalist winner title was announced on the Talent Africa Facebook page.
Lara Meyer Lara is sending in her Stars of the Universe video entry this month.
Judging takes place at the beginning of January.
Teacher
She told Mossel Bay Advertiser: "I wouldn't have reached this point if it weren't for my violin teacher, Stefan Conradie.
"I'm very thankful I could get this far.
"I was not expecting it at all.
"At this moment I am working on my repertoire to start performing and earning extra pocket money."
This Talent Africa competition was a first for Lara. Hard work and dedication paid off.
Another achievement is that Lara has achieved her provincial colours.
