MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Mossel Bay Municipality is hosting its third cycle for the removal of hazardous household waste from 25 to 29 September.
“Members of the public are urged to make use of this free service and not discard of harmful materials and substances through pouring it down the drain.”
The municipality said it has had numerous operational issues at its regional wastewater treatment works due to contamination caused by used oil and other unknown harmful substances ending up in the sewage system.
Residents can drop off their hazardous waste at the following venues from 08:30-14:00:
25 September: Dana Bay Hall
26 September: Mossel Bay Town Hall
29 September: Great Brak Municipal offices
These items can be dropped off:
• Motor oil, oil filters, brake fluid
• Used antifreeze
• Paint, paint thinner, turpentine
• Pesticides or herbicides
• Househould batteries
• CRTs, old television sets, miscellaneous electronics
• Tyres
• Fluorescent tubes and globes
• Household medical waste (needles and old medicine and tablets)
The following item will NOT be accepted:
• Explosives
• Ammunition
• Radioactive materials
• Controlled substances
