MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Over 150 taxis were driven in a convoy from the Mossel Bay taxi rank through town last Thursday 12 March to honour the memory of Mnikwa Mngqinya (59), a well-loved member of the Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association (Codeta) in Mossel Bay.
Mngqinya died from natural causes on 9 March.
Codeta’s chairperson, Siyanda Manyonta, said Mngqinya had been a long-standing member of the association, starting out as a driver in Mossel Bay about 20 years ago, and working hard until he came to own his own taxi under Codeta.
“He was well respected and liked by everyone who knew him,” said Manyonta.
“He was a family man, he was responsible and he was a man with ambitions. He was also very dedicated to Codeta.”
A memorial service was held at Isalathiso Primary School in KwaNonqaba on the same day as the convoy. The funeral will be held in KwaBhaca, formally known as Mount Frere, in the Eastern Cape this Saturday, 21 March.
